KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior’s Jamie Garman and Ashley Scates were named 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes, announced at the NAIA National Headquarters last week. 
Ashley Scates led the Pirates to their first ever NAIA National Championship Tournament berth in her final season.
Each athlete awarded as a Scholar-Athlete must be a junior, senior or graduate student in academic standing and have a minimum 3.50 GPA.
The recipients are listed alphabetically by school. These student-athletes were officially submitted from individual schools to the NAIA-MSCA Scholar-Athlete Coordinator.
Garman is a native of Smithville, Mo. and came to Park from Smithville High School in 2006. The 5-7 pitcher is majoring in Elementary Education and led the Pirates all season long at the plate and inside the circle.
Garman hit .338 on the year and led the Pirates in home runs with six and RBI with 32.
Garman also picked up the win for Park over Hastings College at the 2009 NAIA Softball National Championship Tournament with a complete game performance surrendering only one run and four hits.
Scates hails from Independence, Mo. and transferred to Park after a two-year stint at Johnson County Community College. A Psychology major, Scates earned First-team all MCAC honors for her play at short stop this season.
Scates started in all 40 games for the Pirates this season and hit one home run with 15 RBI. Scates also led the team in walks this season with 17.
