DECATUR, Ala. – In her final game in a Pirate uniform, Park’s senior pitcher Jamie Garman pitched a complete game and led the Pirates to their first ever win in an NAIA Softball National Championship game on Sunday evening at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.
Jamie Garman pitched a complete game for the Pirates in her final collegiate game.
Garman pitched a stellar seven innings and only gave up one run in the 6-1 victory for Park, to improve its 2009 record to 27-13.
“It has been a story book season for everyone involved and I think that playing in our first National Championship tournament was very good experience for our program,” head coach Amy Reif said.
“With this team being so senior laden it really laid the foundation for seasons to come and that is great,” Reif said. “That being said, I am still very sad to see this season end.”
Hastings fell to 35-17 on the year and finished Pool Play with the same record as the Pirates at 1-2.
Garman also helped herself out at the plate by hitting a double to deep right center field in the top of the sixth inning and later scored off of a double from Emily Calder.
Six Pirates collected hits on the day and Kristen Hansen, Calder, Lisa Luettinger and Kristen Kluge all drove in runs.
Park scored first in the ballgame in the top of the first inning on a single by Hansen which scored Abby Welker.
Park added another run in the second off an RBI single by Kluge which scored Luettinger. The Pirates put the game away in the top of the sixth with four more runs.
Park’s magical 2009 season has ended and the Pirates will bid farewell to five exceptional seniors including, Garman, Luettinger, Hansen, Ashley Scates and Alicia Wedel.
