KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Park University women’s soccer senior forward Maria Ruiz was named an honorable mention NAIA All-American by the national headquarters in downtown Kansas City, Mo.
Ruiz, a native of Madrid, Spain, scored 28 goals with nine assists in 2007, ranking fifth in the NAIA in goals per game and points per game, while also earning Top 10 NAIA rankings in shots per game (sixth), shots on goal per game (ninth) and game-winners per game (ninth).
Ruiz finished the year with 65 points and 106 shots, 65 of which were on goal. On Oct. 16 at York College, she established a season-high with four goals, which came after three-straight three-goal games to give the senior 13 goals over a four-game span in October.
She also had a season-high three assists in the stretch, scoring nine points in a conference win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Oct. 3.
Park finished the season as NAIA Region IV runner up, ending the season with an overall mark of 12-5-2, and the Pirates won a pair of MCAC crowns, winning the conference tournament after finishing in a three-way tie for the regular-season crown with a 4-1 MCAC record.
