PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Park University women’s soccer team will celebrate Senior Night on Wednesday night, with kickoff against William Woods University coming just after 6 p.m., at Julian Field.
Park (9-4-1, 6-2 AMC) is looking to rebound from a hard-fought 1-0 loss to conference champion McKendree University on Saturday, as the Bearcats scored in the 44th minute and shut out the Pirates to win, 1-0. Prior to the loss to McKendree, the Pirates had shut out two-straight conference opponents, beating Hannibal-LaGrange 2-0 and Harris-Stowe State, 10-0.
William Woods enters the contest at 2-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play, with its lone win in the league coming over winless Harris-Stowe. The Owls are led by Kelsey Evans’ five goals and three assists, while Anne Weaver has added four scores on the year.
Caty Newbold leads the team in assists with four, also adding two goals, while Kristen Pelley has three goals on the year to go with three assists. Defensively, Anna Hatfield has spent more than 1,152 minutes in goal for the Owls, giving up 37 goals and making 76 saves. Woods has been out-shot 204-159 on the year, including 118-80 in shots on goal, and opponents have outscored the Owls 37-22 in 2009.
Park will counter with a defense that has allowed just four goals, helping Park outscore opponents 47-4. Monika Stoiber has played all 1,321-plus minutes between the pipes with a 0.27 goals-against average and 49 saves, and the Pirate offense has been sparked by Ashley Maxwell’s 13 goals and three assists.
Natalie Parker has also added to the offense this season with 11 scores and is the team leader in assists with four, totaling 26 points on the year. Nori Gedei joins Parker in the assist column at four while scoring three goals on the year. Juneille Watkins has scored eight times on the year with three assists, and Dana Hemmingsen, Shea Brazill and Emilia Sheffer have all also distributed three assists for scores on the year.
On the year, Park holds a 265-133 shots advantage on opponents, with a 141-53 edge in shots on goal.
Prior to Wednesday’s match, Park University will honor seniors Shea Brazill, Ivy Chapin, Kitti Katona and Natalie Parker in a brief ceremony scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. In addition, all gate proceeds from Wednesday’s match will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness, and no season passes or identification cards will be honored for free admission. Fans are encouraged to donate as much as they can to the cause, and collection will take place at the front gate to Julian Field.
