2008 NAIA Women’s Soccer All-Americans
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Park University freshman forward Ashley Maxwell was named to the NAIA Women’s Soccer Third-Team All-America squad, while senior midfielder Sophie Chapman also earned All-America honors, landing on the honorable mention list after wrapping up her career last week in Daytona Beach.
Maxwell, a freshman from Kansas City who was also named MCAC Offensive Player of the Year last month, was a First-Team All-MCAC performer this season after scoring a team-high 13 goals and providing three assists for 29 points on the season.
She also collected a team-high six game-winning goals while taking 82 shots with 47 on-goal, marking team-leading totals in both categories, coming to the Pirates prior to the 2008 season from Park Hill High School.
Chapman, a senior from London, England, was also a First-Team All-MCAC team member, scoring 11 goals with an assist for 23 points. She was second on the team in both shots and shots-on-goal, taking 56 attempts and putting 27 on frame. Chapman also finished the year with four game-winning goals.
Senior defender Jackie Pronovost of Concordia (Ore.) has been picked as the 2008 BRINE-NAIA Player of the Year while senior forward Natalie Buikema of Trinity Christian received the Champions of Character BRINE-NAIA Scholarship. The NAIA’s All-American squad is made up of three teams plus the honorable mention list, and all four lists are chosen by the NAIA Women's Soccer All-America Selection Committee.
"These teams are comprised of the top players from some of the top teams in the NAIA," said Scott Oliver, All-America Selection Committee Chair and head coach of Siena Heights (Mich.) University. "There are so many talented players. Just look at the players that made honorable mention and what they did this year."
Park finished the season with a 14-2-3 record including a 5-0 mark in the MCAC, earning both the regular-season and tournament championships in the conference. The Pirates ended their season last week with a 4-0 second-round loss to Lee, who won the NAIA Women’s Soccer national championship Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Concordia (Ore.) in Daytona Beach, Fla.
