WINFIELD, Kan. – Ashley Nicks fired a second-day low 80, coming from four off the pace to win the 2008 South Central Kansas Spring Invitational, hosted by Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.
Park University also captured the team title at the event, shooting 376 on day one and improving 15 strokes on day two to finish with a two-day total 737, four strokes better than hosting Southwestern, who made the NAIA tournament last season, and 15 ahead of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Park also beat out Oklahoma Baptist, another 2007 NAIA tourney qualifier, by 27 shots.
Nicks, who shot 88 on day one, won the tournament by two shots over Seminole State’s Kimberly Quinn, and the senior was joined in the top 10 by Roxanne Jensen’s ninth-place 187 two-day total and Nicole Wiehe, who also finished in the top 10 with a 188, including improving seven shots on Monday’s total with a Tuesday round of 91.
Park also counted Allison Vaughn’s 195 to finish with the tourney title.
The Pirates are back in action Monday and Tuesday, traveling to Fulton, Mo., for the William Woods Invitational.
