PARKVILLE, Mo. – After dropping a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Missouri Baptist on Thursday night, the Park University women’s basketball team will now welcome in No. 10 ranked Columbia College to the Breckon Sports Center this Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Shareikka Theus-Downey has played in all but one game this season.
Park is now 3-19 on the year and 2-8 in AMC play, while the scorching hot Cougars come to Parkville with a 21-2 record and a perfect AMC mark of 9-0.
Columbia dropped the Pirates in their previous game this season, 67-48, at the Southwell Complex in Columbia.
The Pirates last win against Columbia came back on Dec. 17, 2008, when the Pirates took home a thrilling, 69-68, win over the Cougars.
Park’s Hilary Walker had a fantastic game against Missouri Baptist, scoring 26 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. She was also 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Walker has led Park in scoring in six different games this season and Thursday night marked the third time this season that Walker has led the Pirates in rebounding. The 26 points by the 5-11 junior was the most by any Pirate this season. Walker also had 14 rebounds this year against Benedictine.
The Cougars have steamrolled through the AMC in 2009-10, defeating every competitor it has faced and blew out Williams Baptist, 87-59, in Columbia on Thursday evening.
Columbia ranks No. 1 in the country in blocks per game at 8.4 and No. 1 in the land in total blocks as a team with 194.
Senior guard Whitney Widaman has been the floor leader for the Lady Cougars this season, leading the team in assists at 3.3 per game and steals with 3.4 per contest.
Widaman is also ranked No. 2 in the country in total steals with 79 and is third in the nation in steals per game.
NOTES ON PARK...
- With a season total of 4,536 fans in 10 home games this year, Park Women’s basketball has already had more fans attend the Breckon Sports Center this year than last, with five home games still left to go.
- With her 26 points against MBU, Hilary Walker’s points per game has now grown to 9.9 this season. Dominique Hayes is the team leader in points per game at, 11.0.
NOTES ON COLUMBIA...
- Columbia has scored more than 90 points four times this season and even had a one hundred point game back on January 21, as they defeated Missouri Baptist, 103-82.
- Widaman is also the leader in the AMC in steals per game with 3.3.
