Pirates Hit the Road to Face Mo Bap Thursday

Traci Oden and the Pirates will look for their third straight road conference win on Thursday.
PARKVILLE, Mo. - After dropping the College Fanz NAIA Game of the Week to McKendree last Saturday at home, the Park University women’s basketball team will look to bounce back this Thursday, as they travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Missouri Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
 
The Pirates and Spartans last met on Saturday, January 26 at the Breckon Sports Center, where Mo Bap blew out Park, 86-57.
 
MBU has gone 1-1 since last competing against the Pirates, losing to William Woods, 85-70, on the road on Jan. 28, but defeated Hannibal-LaGrange, 69-60, on January 30 at home. The Spartans are currently 12-8 on the year and 4-4 in AMC play.
 
Park on the other hand is 3-18 on the year and 2-7 in conference action. The Pirates have also gone 1-1 since taking on the Spartans. Park went on the road and took down Stephens College, 67-58, on January 28, but lost to McKendree, 74-43, last Saturday.
 
Park has one two straight road conference games, beating Stephens and Harris-Stowe State, 68-42, back on January 19.
 
MBU also features the AMC’s leading scorer in Megan Payton, who averages 18.1 points per game. Payton did not play in the game against Park a few week’s back. Payton shoots 64-percent from the floor, but hasn’t played since Jan. 21 against Columbia.
 
Park’s leading scorer and rebounder this season has consistently been forward Dominique Hayes. The 6-1 Kansas City, Mo. product, averages 11.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
 
In front of a nationally broadcasted audience last Saturday, Hayes scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss at home against McKendree.
 
Hilary Walker has played well for the Pirates as of late, with her eight blocks against Stephens, Walker now ranks 18th in the country in blocks per game. She also ranks No. 20 in the nation in total blocks with 31.
 
As a team the Pirates rank No. 24 in the country in total steals with 232. Walker also has the team high in total steals with 41. Park has caused 30 more turnovers this season than they have committed.

NOTES ON PARK...  

- Over 1,000 people attended last Saturday’s game against McKendree at the Breckon Sports Center, marking Park’s first sell out crowd of the year. 
-  4,536 fans have attended Park University’s nine women’s basketball games this year.
 
NOTES ON MISSOURI BAPTIST...
- Mo Bap’s four conference wins have come against Park, Stephens College, Harris-Stowe State and Hannibal-LaGrange.
- MBU ranks No. 11 in the country in team scoring average at 78 points per game.
- They also rank No. 12 in the nation in steals per game, with 12.7 per contest.
