Cummings Scores Her 1000th Career Point in Loss at Avila

Senior Meghan Cummings scored her 1000th career point Tuesday night.
BOX SCORE

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Despite senior Meghan Cummings collecting her 1000th career point, Avila University took down Park, 90-68, Tuesday evening inside the Mabee Fieldhouse.

Cummings eclipsed the milestone with 5:03 left in the second half as she sank the second of two free-throws. The St. Joseph, Mo. native scored 15 points on the night and grabbed four rebounds.

Cummings also eclipsed the 700 career rebound mark last Saturday in the win against Brescia on senior day.

Park kept it close for the majority of the half by creating turnovers and big shots from sophomore Brianne Edwards.

The Pirates caused 11 first half turnovers and Edwards dropped 14 in the first frame. Park also collected seven steals in the half and grabbed 15 rebounds.

The Eagles took a 39-27 lead into halftime by shooting 60-percent from the field and had two double-digit scorers in Townsend and Alyson Young. Townsend scored 14 and Young knocked in 10.

Avila hit 9-of-14 three-point baskets in the second half and outscored the Pirates, 51-41, to break open the game and take home the 22 point victory.

The Eagles posted five double-digit scorers and shot 63-percent from the field, along with shooting 50-percent from three-point range.

Freshman Halima Ramsey played the most minutes of her career with, eight, and scored a career high three points on the night.

Park will hit the road for its next two games as they take on Voorhees on Valentines Day, Saturday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. and Brescia University on Sunday, February 15 also at 1:00 p.m.
