2009 – Penolio saw action in 29 matches a year ago and appeared in 90 games…Had 92 kills on the year and was fifth on the team in blocks with 49…Averaged 1.02 kills per game in ’09 and had 20 service aces on the year…Had a season high seven kills against Clarke College on Jan. 30 and had a season high five blocks against Johnson and Wales on Mar. 20, a game which was played in Denver, Colo…Totaled 133 points on the year.
2008 – Played in eight matches and 11 games, posting 20 kills and a .263 hitting percentage…Had seven kills in Park’s 3-0 win on Jan. 26 over Moody Bible and had a career-high for kills against Fontbonne with eight in the Homewood Suites Invitational finale…Also had five digs in the match against Fontbonne, totaling nine on the year…Finished the season with five blocks and 28 points…Had five service aces, four
of which came in the 3-0 win over Fontbonne.
PERSONAL – Jacob Benton Penolio was born in San Diego, Calif., and is the son of Joe and Rebecca Penolio…Father is a firefighter, mother a first grade teacher’s aide in the San Diego area…Has two younger siblings…Chose Park over UC-Irvine, UC-San Diego, Cal State-Northridge and UC-Santa Cruz…Is majoring in athletic training and points to the volleyball program as a reason for choosing Park University…Attended Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach, Calif., where he played both volleyball and basketball for the Mariners…Volleyball coach was Robbie Cole and basketball team was coached by Jessie Aguire…Helped the Mariners to league titles in the Southbay Conference in 2004 and 2007…Was named team-MVP three times and league MVP as a senior…Was also first-team All-Southbay three times and was named to the all-tournament team.
