The Pirate Post
Park University’s Athletics Blog
August 31, 2008

It’s been 17 days since we first hit the blogosphere, and a lot has happened in the past two-plus weeks around the Pirate athletics complex. Both soccer teams and the cross country squads have put their seasons in motion. Cross country had a solid weekend against really good competition in Lawrence, and by the looks of his comments after the race, head coach Brian Renshaw was pleased with what he saw out of both teams to begin the season.

Women’s soccer got the season off to a good start with a win Friday at nationally ranked John Brown, and a day later, another solid showing with a 2-2 split with No. 18 Bethel. Great weekend of soccer in Arkansas for the women, and the men had possibly one of the nation’s toughest opening two matches, going against sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson on Saturday and No. 17 Lee Sunday. It was a 1-1 weekend for the men, but the guys really broke out Sunday and had goals from two guys that will really get a confidence boost for the upcoming contest against Oklahoma Christian.

Speaking of OC, both soccer teams play at home on Saturday against Oklahoma Christian. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3. Let’s plan on packing all 1,500 or so seats out there at Julian Field to give our teams their official “welcome home” from a great weekend.

Women’s Volleyball gets the season underway Tuesday, and that’s where you’ll get your first look – or should I say, listen – at one of our newest features in athletics. All of last year, we tested the radio waters with men’s and women’s basketball. This year, we’re going all-out and putting as much as we can on the air. If you’re around campus, you’ll be able to pick up Tuesday’s volleyball match at Kansas Wesleyan on 90.3 KGSP, but if you’re not, click http://kgsp.park.edu and you’ll hear the play-by-play. Our next broadcast after Tuesday’s volleyball will be Saturday, when Jake Waldon – the play-by-play voice of the Pirates – takes the microphone from the sports information staff and turns in his first broadcast of the year in the two soccer matches between Park and OC.

We are REALLY looking forward to bringing you guys as much play-by-play as possible this year, starting Tuesday in Salina.

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to visit the Web site this weekend and take a look at the game stories, schedules and results of the entire weekend’s action. As the season heats up, look for more blogs from Park athletics, including a few words from student-athletes and coaches.

Until then, Go Pirates!
