Park University Lands 35 on 2008-09 MCAC Scholar Athlete List

Complete MCAC Scholar Athlete List

Sophie Chapman (women's soccer, pictured) was named Park University's 2008-09 MCAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Nick Kouratou (baseball) was Park's male honoree.
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference has released the 2008-09 Scholar-Athlete list, and Park University is represented by 35 student-athletes, including its two MCAC Scholar Athletes of the Year, Nick Kouratou (Baseball) and Sophie Chapman (Women’s Soccer).

To earn MCAC Scholar-Athlete honors, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, own a 3.25 cumulative grade point average or higher, and have completed at least two semesters at their present institution.

Additionally, each school received two MCAC Scholar Athlete of the Year distinctions – one male and one female.

Women’s Soccer led all Park programs with 10 conference scholar athlete distinctions, including Chapman, a London, England, native who earned Park’s MCAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year honor after being named honorable mention NAIA All-American as well as First-Team All-MCAC last fall.

Kouratou was one of three baseball players named to the MCAC Scholar Athlete list, and the Pirates’ senior shortstop is a candidate for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete honors at the end of the season.

A native of Tucson, Ariz., Kouratou hit over .400 last season and was named both All-MCAC and All-Region IV, and in 2009, he is third on the team in RBIs, driving in 44 runs while also hitting a team-best 24 extra-base hits, including 19 doubles, which is also a team-high.

Park University also had four of its five women’s golf team members named to the MCAC Scholar Athlete list, while softball landed four on the list and the men’s and women’s track and field program put three student-athletes on.

Men’s soccer had three conference scholar athletes, while women’s volleyball had four and men’s basketball had three. The complete Park University scholar athlete roster is listed below.
