PARKVILLE, Mo. – Breckon Sports Center will have an extra buzz about it Saturday, Jan. 31, when the Park University Pirates take on the Rockhurst University Hawks in men’s basketball at 2 p.m.
Chris Jones is one of seven seniors to be honored Saturday vs. Rockhurst. The Park Pirate Club will also have activities going on throughout the day leading up to the 2 p.m. tip with the Hawks.
At halftime, Park will honor its two lifetime members of the Pirate Club – Mr. Benny Lee and Mr. Ed Bradley – who made their lifetime membership donation to help the Pirate Club with its mission of enhancing athletic program opportunities.
Lee is the Chairman and CEO of Top Innovation, and Bradley is the President and CEO of Patriots Bank.
“Any time a commitment is made from friends and alumni of a university, it shows that they believe in the university’s commitment to excellence,” said Roland Shelton, Associate Vice President for Advancement. “These two men are great examples of that commitment to Park University’s drive for excellence.”
Additionally, prior to the game with RU, the Pirate Club will hold a social gathering for current and potential members in the Sports Center’s east dome, beginning at 1 p.m., and prior to the game, the University will honor its seven-member men’s basketball senior class.
During the pregame social, a very special student offer will also be available, as Park University students will be able to purchase a 2009 Pirate Club membership for $5, which is a $10 discount off of the normal student membership cost of $15.
There will also be a free catered lunch to all in attendance at the membership social, and those who join
Saturday will also receive a free T-Shirt courtesy of the Pirate Club. Men’s basketball senior parents are also invited to attend the event, which begins at 1 p.m.
At 1:55 p.m., the Park University men’s basketball senior class will be honored, as Nathan Duncan, Michael Zimmerman, Marcus Seidel, Deron Cherry II, Chris Jones, Milan Susnjar and Jon Meriweather will prepare to play their final Saturday home game in a Pirate uniform.
The Pirates will play two more weekday home games throughout the year, taking on College of the Ozarks Feb. 3 and Peru State Feb. 9.
