PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Park University men’s volleyball team will travel to Davenport, Iowa this weekend to compete in the St. Ambrose Invitational Tournament and will face four opponents in two days.
Philip Heckmann has helped the Pirates to four straight wins.
The Pirates will take on Moody Bible Institute at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 5 and Grand Canyon University Friday at 6:00 p.m. Saturday the Pirates will face St. Xavier University at 11:00 a.m. and Siena Heights at 1:00 p.m. to round out competition.
Park enters the tournament with an overall record of 12-4 and are 9-1 in MAMVIC West competition.
Moody Bible enters the tourney with an overall record of 0-13 and takes on Warner Southern on Friday at 12:00 p.m. right before the match with the Pirates.
Grand Canyon is 5-13 overall on the year and is led by Brock Hutchins who leads the squad in kills with 267. Hutchins averages 4.5 kills per game and is third on the team in service aces with 13. He also has 16 assists on the year.
GCU’s leading assist man is Brad Moore, who has 672 assists in their 18 matches this season.
Chris Lockwood leads the squad in hitting percentage at .369. He averages 2.27 kills per game and has slammed home 116 kills this season.
St. Xavier is 3-13 on the year and has lost three of its last four matches. There last victory came on Feb. 17 against Moody Bible. Their two other victories came against Mount St. Vincent on January 29.
St. Xavier’s leader in kills is Aaron Porter who has 191 kills. Porter is also the team leader in service aces with 21.
Siena Heights enters the tournament with a record of 7-6 and 2-3 in the MAMVIC East conference.
The Saints leading hitter is Adrian Rutt who has 181 kills in 42 sets this season. He has posted a .228 hitting percentage as well.
Park’s leading hitter and current NAIA Player of the Week, Fray Luis Fajardo Arteaga has 229 kills this season and averages 229 kills per game.
Phillip Heckmann has been Park’s starting setter the last few matches and has become the Pirates leader in service aces since his new role in the starting lineup. Heckmann now has a team high 28 service aces.
