Volleyball Returns Home to Face Missouri Valley Tuesday

Zach Penolio and the Pirates return home to face Mo Valley Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Park University men’s volleyball team will play at home for only the second time in 2010, this Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m. against Missouri Valley.

Park defeated Mo Valley in four games last time they faced the Vikings back on Feb. 2. The Pirates are 8-3 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in MAMVIC West play.

The Vikings come into Breckon Sports Center with an overall record of 7-7 and 2-3 in MAMVIC play.

In Park’s previous match with Mo Valley, Luis Zepeda led all players with 19 kills and posted a hitting percentage of .308. Erick Albuquerque and Zach Penolio both registered more than 10 kills on the night, Albuquerque had 14, while Penolio had 10.

Park had 63 total kills compared to the Vikings, 48. Park won game one 30-23, but the Vikings came back to win game two, 32-30, and closed out the match winning game three, 30-21, and game four by the same score, 30-21.

The Vikings leader in kills this season is Josh DeLeon. The 5-10 Outside Hitter has a team high 133 kills.

Park is coming off three matches in two days over the weekend. The Pirates lost to No. 4 ranked Clarke College in three games last Friday, but responded by defeating Missouri Baptist and NCAA Division III opponent, Fontbonne University both in three games.

The Pirates have collected 595 kills in its 11 matches this season and Fray Luis Fajardo Arteaga leads the squad with his 137.

Junior middle block Jake Penolio has stepped up his game the last few matches, Penolio is now the team leader in blocks with 31 and is fifth on the team in kills with 67, good for 1.60 kills per game.
