ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Park University men’s volleyball team picked up two wins on Saturday afternoon over Missouri Baptist and Fontbonne University to improve its overall record to 8-3.
Oskar Soderlund had five kills and hit 1.000 against Mo Bap on Saturday.
The Pirates defeated Mo Bap in straight sets, 30-21, 30-27, 30-23 and took down NCAA Division III opponent Fontbonne, 30-18, 30-17 and 30-14.
Park began the weekend on Friday evening facing off against Clarke College on the campus of Missouri Baptist, eventually losing in three sets, 30-25, 30-24 and 31-29.
Many Pirates stepped up on Saturday afternoon despite the tough loss to the Crusaders on Friday night. Oskar Soderlund had five kills against Mo Bap and a hitting percentage of 1.000. Junior middle blocker Jake Penolio led all Pirates in kills with 10.
Also in the match against MBU, Erick Albuquerque, Fray Luis Fajardo Arteaga and Luis Zepeda all had nine kills.
Freshman setter Felix Horn had 38 assists and Park collected a stellar 11 blocks as a team.
In the final match of the weekend against Fontbonne, Penolio again led the team in kills with seven and posted a hitting percentage of .385. Beau Barnthson had three kills and Phillip Heckmann had three service aces.
Park will now return home for five straight matches beginning next Tuesday Feb. 23 against Missouri Valley at 7:00 p.m.
