Homewood Suites Invitational Scoreboard
PARKVILLE, Mo. - A day after knocking off the NAIA's top-ranked team at Breckon Sports Center, the Park University men's volleyball team puzzled two more opponents on its home floor Friday, knocking off Cardinal Stritch 3-0 (30-26, 30-23, 30-25) and Warner Southern (30-15, 29-31, 30-25, 30-25).
Park (14-1) was led by a pair of 16-kill outings in its two-win day, as Henry Uribe had 16 in the opener against Stritch and Ryan Stafford had 16 in the four-game win over Warner Southern. Uribe also found double figures against the Royals, tallying 12 in match No. 2.
The day started with a quick sweep of Cardinal Stritch, as Park went up 30-26 early before taking a 30-23 win in game two to lead 2-0.
The Pirates managed to dust off Stritch despite a concerted game-three effort from the visitors, hanging on for a 30-25 win in game three.
J.P. da Silva had 34 assists in the opening match, as Park survived and swept despite a .172 hitting mark to start the day.
Park's second match of the day against a ranked NAIA opponent saw the Pirates put forth two double-digit setters, as Nikola Bursac led the team with 21 and da Silva, who played limited serves, had 19.
The Pirates hit .239 in the win, opening with a 30-15 blow-out over the Royals.
Park looked to be in control of game two despite not getting ahead by more than two points, leading 10-8 early and 21-19 late, but Warner Southern collapsed Park's hopes at a 2-0 lead by finishing the game on a 12-8 run to win 31-29.
The Pirates would fight from behind in game three to win 30-25, and Park shut the door on the match in game four, 30-25.
The Pirates are back in action Saturday on day two of the Homewood Suites Invitational, taking the floor at 3 p.m. against Clarke College before a 5 p.m. tournament finale against NCAA Division III Fontbonne.
