Second Half Goal Sends SFU Past Park, 1-0

OLATHE, Kan. - Lucas Barrett scored a second-half goal and Simon Fraser managed to hold off two late Park attempts, as SFU topped the Pirates 1-0 in the second round of the 2007 NAIA Men's Soccer Tournament at the College Boulevard Activity Center in Olathe, Kan.

The Pirates (13-6) took eight shots in the game, two of which were on goal, led by Mirsad Dzilic and Adam Tayani, who each took a pair of shots, one of which found the frame for each. SFU (16-1-1) got two saves out of Thomas Lindley, who played all 90:00 in goal, and the Clan managed six shots, three of which were on goal in the second-round win.

Michael Eade surrendered the only goal of the game in 90:00 for the Pirates, finishing the contest with two saves in the season-ending loss.

Barrett put SFU on top in the 80th minute, scoring on a header in the six-yard box on a crossing pass from Todd Lucyk to make it 1-0.

Adam Tayani gave the Pirates a chance with three minutes to play, firing from 18 yards out to the right post, but Lindley made a diving stop to preserve the lead for the Clan.

Oscar Juma nearly tied it with 1:37 to go from midfield, but Juma's opportunity sailed over the crossbar, and with 20 seconds to go Desmand Yankey narrowly missed from inside the 18-yard box.

The Pirates close their season with an overall mark of 13-6, ending 2007 as MCAC regular season and Region IV tournament champion.
