Carrion, Palmer Shine in Win over Midland Lutheran

BOX SCORE

Sibhat Dagnachaw scored his second career goal on Saturday against MLC.
PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Park University men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the 2010 season on Saturday afternoon, beating Midland Lutheran College, 5-0, at Julian Field.

Ramone Palmer scored two goals and Roberto Carrion picked up his first career goal and assist, and helped the Pirates improve their record to 1-1 on the season. For the Warriors, they now drop to 0-1 to open up their season.

Palmer began the scoring in the 17th minute when he received a ball from teammate Simon Senfuka and blasted it past MLC keeper Dan Coleman. The assist was the second of the season for Senfuka.

Senfuka then got in on the scoring, as he scored Park’s second goal in the 35th minute with the assist going to Palmer. After halftime, Palmer scored his second goal of the day in the 53rd minute off of a beautiful pass from Carrion.

Carrion then snuck one past MLC to bring the score to 4-0. Finally in the 59th minute, junior midfielder Sibhat Dagnachaw scored and Park took home the five point victory.

The goal for Dagnachaw was the second of his career. Park’s defense was on par on Saturday as well, freshman keeper Reece Harris collected his first career shutout and had four saves on the day.

The 5-0 victory was the largest margin of victory since Oct. 31, 2009, when the Pirates destroyed Williams Baptist University down in Walnut Ridge, Ark., by the same score of 5-0.

Along with Harris, fellow freshman Anass Moudfir started in his first career game on Saturday. Moudfir took one shot on the afternoon.

Park will now wait 11 days until their next game as they host Lindenwood University on Sept. 8 at 6:00 p.m.
