2008-09 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball All-Americans
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Park University senior forward Jon Meriweather was named to the 2008-09 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball All-America Second Team after averaging a double-double and collecting 70-percent of Park’s blocked shots for the 2008-09 season.

The announcement was made Tuesday evening in conjunction with the 2009 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
Meriweather led the Pirates in scoring and rebounding, averaging 20.9 points per game while tracking down 10.3 rebounds per contest, both of which were top 10 totals in NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball.
A Kansas City, Mo., native, Meriweather ranked No. 9 in the NAIA in scoring and No. 5 in rebounding, while his 2.7 blocked shots per game were the sixth-best blocking average in the NAIA Division I ranks.
In all, Meriweather swatted 70 of Park’s 100 team blocked shots in 2008-09, and a the foul line, the 6-foot-8 senior was one of the nation’s best, hitting 82.6-percent from the line on 133-of-161 free throw attempts.
His free throw percentage ranked 20th in the association, while his field goal percentage ranked No. 13 at 59.1-percent on 205-of-347 from the floor.
Averaging 33.7 points during the season, Meriweather had 26 double-figure scoring games in 27 trips to the floor, and he also collected 16 double-doubles, a total that was fourth-best in the NAIA.
Of his 26 double-figure scoring outings, Meriweather had 13 games with 20 or more points, and three times, Meriweather scored 30 or more points, including matching his career-high with 38 in Park’s 97-86 win over NCAA Division II Missouri Western.
In his career, Meriweather went for 30 or more six times, and in his three years at Park, the Pirates finished with an overall record of 58-33, including a trip to the 2006-07 NAIA Division I National Tournament.
Meriweather’s 2008-09 second-team honor matches his second-team All-America distinction from the 2007-08 season, when he was also named a third-team All-American by both Victory Sports Network (now College Fanz) and Basketball Times.
He was also a first-team preseason All-American according to Basketball Times to begin the 2008-09 season.
Park finished the 2008-09 season in the A.I.I. semifinals, falling to Crichton College, and the Pirates ended the year with an overall record of 16-14.
