6-1, 175, Sr., G, Alexandria, La. (Kansas City Kansas CC)

2009-10 – Started in all but one game at the point guard position, playing in all 33 contests with a team-best 86 assists to just 58 turnovers…Averaged 5.3 points and two rebounds per game…Had four double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 19 points in the American Midwest Conference Tournament Championship at McKendree…Dished out eight assists in January at Harris-Stowe and six more at home against Missouri Baptist later in the month…Also had seven assists at Columbia to begin conference play…Had 93 steals on the season, including six against Williams Baptist in the AMC tournament quarterfinals…Produced six more five-steal performances during the year…Hit 66 shots from the floor without a made 3-point basket and also knocked down 42 free throws…PERSONAL – Derrick L. Howard is the son of Debra Moore and Oscar Howard…Was born in Alexandria, La., and has two siblings, Oscar, Jr., and Terrance…Has a daughter, Kamaya M. Howard…Played high school basketball at Peabody Magnet High School with current Park teammate Travis Fairley… Won Louisiana state championships in both his freshman year and senior year with the Warhorses, and in his time at Peabody Magnet, accumulated a 3.7 grade point average…Went on to play at Kansas City Kansas Community College for head coach Jon Oler…Averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 assists per game for the Blue Devils…Had 21 points and nine assists against Wiley College and later scored 12 points and had 11 assists against Fort Scott Community College…Chose Park for its basketball program and will major in political science.
