BATESVILLE, Ark. – Alexis Fry scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of play for Park University to get its seventh shutout of the season. The Pirates (8-3, 6-1 AMC) beat Lyon College (4-7-1, 4-3 AMC) in an American Midwest Conference game 2-0 in Batesville, Arkansas.
"A good conference road win today," said head coach Ken Hefner. "Having the last ten days off showed in our play."
In the 32nd minute of the game, Isabel Sullivan took a plenty kick for the Pirates' offense but the Scots' Claire Coley made the save. In the first half, Sullivan took two shots and Coley saved both of the shots. The Pirates took two shots on goal, while the Scots did not take any shots on goal in the first half.
Fry's goal in the 82nd minute was assisted by Emma Chatterton and Maddy Russell. In the final minute of play, Kerinne Murry scored the final goal of the game. Murry's goal was assisted by Lydia Parker. The Pirates outshot the Scots 10-4 in the second half.
Alyssa Gregory was in the net for the Pirates' defense getting her third shutout of the season. Gregory played the full 90 minutes in net getting the win and making one save. Coley was in the net for the Scots' defense getting the loss. Coley made four saves and allowed two goals for Lyon.
"We did a lot of good things and it rewarded us in the last ten minutes," said Hefner. "We are looking forward to the remaining challenges ahead of us."
The Pirates will travel to Columbia, Missouri, on Friday, October 13, as they take on fifth-ranked Columbia College in the AMC Game of the Week. There will be live stats and live video available at www.parkathletics.tv. The start time is set for 4:30 p.m.
