PARKVILLE, Mo. - The push toward the postseason kicks into another gear for Park University men's soccer on Tuesday, October 10 as the Pirates begin the second half of American Midwest Conference play at Lyon with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m.
The Pirates (5-3-2, 2-2-2) kick off a three-match road trip before finishing the 2017 regular season with back-to-back home contests. Park will travel to No. 21-ranked Columbia on Friday, Oct. 13 before visiting Williams Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 21.
LAST TIME OUT
For the second-straight outing, the Pirates were forced into extra time before finishing in a 1-1 draw, this time against Hannibal-LaGrange on Sept. 30. Pedro De Souza (SR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) opened the scoring for the second-straight game, converting a 22-yard shot at 25:48. However, the Trojans equalized less than five minutes later to complete the scoring. The Pirates posted a 20-11 edge in shots and attempted a season-high 13 corner kicks.
Park and Lyon have split the eight all-time meetings between the two teams with the Scots winning two matchups during the 2016 season. The Scots claimed a 4-0 win over the Pirates at Julian Field during the regular season before downing the Pirates, 2-0, in the AMC Tournament on Nov. 5.
ABOUT THE SCOTS
Lyon owns an identical overall record to Park at 5-3-2, but is 4-1-1 in AMC play to sit in third place. The Scots had been unbeaten over the last five contests before falling 1-0 to Missouri Baptist on October 7. Omar Fabila leads Lyon in scoring with five goals, while Ulises Cordova has scored four times.
Though the Pirates are winless over the last four games (0-2-2), Park is still unbeaten on the season (5-0-2) when scoring the first goal of the game. The Pirates netted first in both of its consecutive draws and has tallied the opening goal in all five of the victories.
