BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Park University men's soccer played with a man advantage for over an hour, but was held to a 1-1 draw at Lindenwood-Belleville on Wednesday evening.
The Pirates (5-3-1, 2-2-1) were able to pick up a draw on the road after losing the previous two games and sit in fourth place in the American Midwest Conference standings heading into Saturday's home contest against fifth-place Hannibal-LaGrange.
Park took its first lead in three games in the 36th minute when Pedro De Souza (SR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) netted the first goal of the game and his third goal of the season. The Pirates were in danger of falling behind less than five minutes into the game, but Thalu Masindi (JR/London, England) saved a penalty kick from Andres Garza.
The game looked to be swinging even further in favor of the Pirates just one minute before halftime when Rodolfo Salbego of the Lynx was sent off. The man advantage, however, would not prove to be fruitful for the visitors.
Garza made up for his penalty kick miss and drew the Lynx level less than five minutes into the second half. The Lynx had a chance to go in front one minute later when Alan Uechi rung a shot off the crossbar.
Park was limited to three shots the rest of the second half and headed into overtime for the first time this season. A cross by Daniel Jackson (SR/Nottingham, England) early in the second overtime created the best chance of extra time, but Adeeb Qaisi (JR/Hebron, Palestine) was unable to keep his shot on target.
Masindi recorded two saves in goal for the Pirates, while Joan Carlos Perez recorded five stops for Lindenwood-Belleville (0-5-2, 0-1-2).
