BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Park University women's soccer team headed to Belleville, Illinois, to take on Lindenwood University-Belleville in an American Midwest Conference game Wednesday night. The Pirates (6-3, 4-1 AMC) fell to the Lynx (3-5, 2-1 AMC) 3-0.
"Really a bad day for us," said head coach Ken Hefner. "We showed up and they came to win a championship. A good win for them but a bad loss for us."
The Lynx' Emily Fox found Jasmine Smith in the 18th minute of the game, to put the Lynx on the scoreboard. In the 30th minute, Fox found Maddison Beck's head to put the ball in the net. The Lynx led the Pirates 2-0, with 15 minutes left in the first half. The Lynx' Maisie Kincaid scored the last goal of the game in the 43rd minute in the first half. Kincaid's goal was a penalty kick.
The Pirates were able to hold off the Lynx from scoring any more goals in the second half. The Lynx outshot the Pirates 10-5 in the game.
Alyssa Gregory was in the net for the Pirates' defense getting her first loss of the season. Gregory allowed three goals and made three saves in the game. Alondra Balderrama was in the net for the Lynx' defense. She picked up a shutout and win in the net for the Lynx.
"We have to understand every game must be played like it is our last," said Hefner. "If not then we are going to have a short season."
The Pirates will be back in action on Saturday, September 30, as they host Hannibal-LaGrange University at Julian Field in an AMC game. There will be live stats and live video available at www.parkathletics.tv. The start time is set for 12 p.m.
