LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Taylor Buckholz scored in the eighth minute of the game for Park University. After Buckholz's goal, there was no looking back for the Pirates' offense. Park (2-2) beat University of St. Mary (2-1-1) 4-0.
"I am very pleased with the results," said head coach Ken Hefner. "We had some very good plays tonight. Some of the things we have been talking about and working on came into being and we were able to make them positives for us."
In the 24th minute, Emma Chatterton found Gabi Severns to put the ball in the back of the net. The Pirates outshot the Spires seven to one in the first half. At the end of the first half, Park led St. Mary 2-0.
Chatterton was able to get a penalty kick goal in the 80th minute of the game for the Pirates. Within three minutes of Chatterton's goal, her teammate, Severns, scored the final goal of the game. Severn's goal was assisted by Isabel Sullivan. Park outshot St. Mary nine to four in the half.
Alyssa Gregory got the win in the net for Park. She made three saves and did not allow any goals in the game. Gregory picked up her first shutout of the season. The Spires' Sara Ruiz-Payan got the loss in the net. She allowed four goals and made five saves in the net.
"I look forward to our next games," said Hefner. "It will be the start of our conference play."
The Pirates will be back in action on Wednesday, September 13, as they head to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy to open American Midwest Conference play. There will be live stats and live video available at www.parkathletics.tv. The start time is set for 7 p.m.
