LAMONI, Iowa – Nicholas Rotich led the way for the men's cross country team at the Graceland University Invitational, while Vibian Chemeli led the way for the women's cross country team. The men's team placed first out of five teams, while the women's team placed third out of four teams.
"We had another good showing at the Graceland University Invitational," said head coach Brian Renshaw. "We have a couple weeks before our next meet. We will just be taking it one day at a time."
Rotich won the overall 6K race with a time of 20:01.70, while his teammate, William Henry, finished second with a time of 20:27.30. Brendan Briody placed third with a time of 21:00.90, beating out his teammate, Ryan Zitter by five seconds. Zitter placed fourth with a time of 21:05.10, while his teammate, Joshua Goodloe, rounded out the top five runners. Goodloe placed fifth with a time of 21:29.10.
Chemeli placed second in the 4K race with a time of 16:30.30, while her teammate, Morgan Lindgren, placed fourth with a time of 16:41.70. Rachel Franklin placed sixth with a time of 17:00.00. Areka Hanson finished 19th, and her teammate, Anna Zirpolo, rounded out the top five runners.
On the men's side, Park took home first place with 15 points, while Southwest Community College finished second with a total of 48 points.
On the women's side, Graceland's Kami Tabor won the overall race with a time of 15:58. The Yellow Jackets also won the overall meet with a total of 45 points and Buena Vista University finished second with 51 points. The Pirates had a total of 52 points to finished third at the meet.
The Pirates will be back on the course Saturday, September 30, as they head to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to compete in the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival.
