PARKVILLE, Mo. - Adeeb Qaisi (JR/Hebron, Palestine) headed in the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining to lift Park University men's soccer to a 2-1 win over Friends, Wednesday evening at Julian Field.

The Pirates (2-1-0) scored a late goal for the second-straight home outing to earn its second win of the season, all the while playing the final 32 minutes with 10 men.

With the teams tied at 1-1, Jediah Thomas (SR/Boynton Beach, Fla.) was sent off for a foul committed as the last defender with 32 minutes to play. Though Friends was unable to capitalize on the free kick just outside the penalty area, the Pirates had their work cut out for them playing with the disadvantage.

Despite the Pirates being pinned into their own end for long stretches of the second half, they took advantage of the opportunity to counterattack and created several opportunities. One of those instances led to the game-winning goal, which was served up off a corner kick by Jesse Jasso (JR/Kansas City, Mo.) with 3:19 to play.

For the third time in as many games, De La Torre etched his name on the scoresheet to give the Pirates the lead at 22:14 of the first half. In almost identical fashion to the opening game of the season, Daniel Jackson (SR/Nottingham, England) freed himself on the left wing and picked out De La Torre near the six-yard box. The result was the same for De La Torre, who put his team ahead midway through the opening stanza.

Friends also took advantage of a corner kick to grab an equalizer in the 54th minute. Marcos Gomez fired a corner kick from the left side toward the middle of the Park penalty area. Roberto Gomez rose unmarked just outside the six-yard box and headed the ball into the corner to bring the teams back on level terms.

The Falcons (1-2-0) claimed a 18-11 edge in shots for the match, but the Pirates had just one fewer attempt on target, 8-7. Thalu Masindi (JR/London, England) recorded seven saves to pick up the victory in goal for Park, while Thibault Garnier recorded five stops for Friends.

Park concludes non-conference play on the road this Saturday, September 9 at the University of St. Mary (Kan.) with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
