PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Park University women's soccer team hosted Friends University in a non-conference game at Julian Field. The Pirates (1-2) beat the Falcons (1-2) 3-1. 

  

"I am really proud of my team tonight," said head coach Ken Hefner. "A complete reversal of our last outing. We played smart determined and smart."

 

In the first half, the Pirates out shot the Falcons four to two. Despite the shot advantage, neither team was able to score a goal.

 

In the 49th minute of the game, Maddy Russell headed the ball into the net for the Pirates off of Isabel Sullivan's corner kick. The Falcons' Abby Anderson had a half volley to tie the game up 1-1. Sullivan from 30 yards out made a top-shelf goal for the Pirates in the 62 minute of play. After Sullivan's goal, the Pirates led the Falcons 2-1. In the 73rd minute of the game, Sullivan got a loose ball and knocked one from 22 yards out to make it in the lower left corner of the net.

 

Alyssa Gregory was in the net for the Pirates. She allowed one goal and made four saves Park. Gregory also got her first win in the net as a Pirate. The Falcons' Ashlee Richman got the loss in the net. Richman allowed three goals and made seven saves in the net for Friends.

 

"We played for 90 minutes for the first time this year and we got a good reward for the effort," said Hefner. "We have a lot of potential to build off of."

 

The Pirates will be back in action on Saturday, September 9, as they head to Leavenworth, Kansas, to take on the University of St. Mary in their last non-conference game of the season. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
