INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - A second half goal by Matheus Teles (FR/Santos, Brazil) gave the Park University developmental squad its first-ever victory, a 1-0 triumph over MCC-Blue River on Tuesday evening.
Teles broke the deadlock in the 84th minute and the Pirates (1-1-0) held off the Trailblazers (2-2-0) to put a tally in the win column for the first time. The goalkeeping tandem of Luis Torres (JR/Belton, Mo.) and Ian Carver (FR/Kansas City, Mo.) did the rest, combining for five saves to record the clean sheet.
The Pirates were limited to four total shots, three of those on goal, while the Trailblazers managed 15 total shots (five on goal). Park also was able to work its way through five corner kicks to maintain its first shutout of the season.
The next match for the developmental squad will be on Friday, September 15 against the Rockhurst University reserve team at Julian Field at 3:30 p.m.
