PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Park University women's soccer team opened their season up against No. 4 Benedictine College in a non-conference game at Julian Field. The Pirates (0-1) fell to the Ravens (2-0) 5-2. The Ravens outshot the Pirates 17-8, and the Ravens had 12 of their shots on goal. 

 

The Ravens' Olivia Meyers took a free kick and found Molly Schmidt's header to score the first goal 19:53 in to the game. About eight minutes later, the Meyers scored the next goal from 14 yards out and found the top right corner. Meyer's goal was assisted by Abbie Hair. Heading into halftime, Benedictine led Park 2-0.

 

32 seconds into the second half, the Ravens' Anna Romano shot from the edge of the box and kicked the ball over Mercedes Daniels' head for a goal. The Ravens led the Pirates 3-0, after Romano's goal. Isabel Sullivan took a penalty shot to score the Pirates' first goal of the season. In the 50th minute, the Pirates trailed the Ravens 3-1. Three minutes later, the Ravens' Madison Sanders had a long cross to find the head of Emily Ambulu. After Ambulu's goal, Emma Chatterton scored the Pirates' second goal of the season in the 54th minute. Chatterton's goal was assisted by Maria Carvalho. The Ravens finished out the scoring with another goal by Meyers in the 86th minute, assisted by her teammate, Romano.

 

Ellen Loughman was in the net for the Ravens, allowing two goals and had one save in the game. Loughman got the win in the net for Benedictine. Amy Roskell and Daniels split time in the net for the Pirates' defense. Roskell allowed two goals and made two saves in the first half, while her teammate, Daniels, allowed three goals and made five saves in the second half. Roskell got the loss in the net for the Pirates.

 

The Pirates will be back in action on Saturday, September 2, as they travel to Lamoni, Iowa, to take on Graceland University in a non-conference game. There will be live stats available at DakStats. The start time is set for 12 p.m.
