PARKVILLE, Mo. - Park University men's soccer will hit the reset button on its 2017 season opener after getting washed out last Sunday and will host Briar Cliff University on Wednesday, August 30 at Julian Field as part of a non-conference doubleheader.

Following the women's clash with No. 4-ranked Benedictine College, the men kick off the new campaign against the Chargers in the first of two matches this week. The Pirates will hit the road for the first time in 2017 and match up with Graceland University at 2:00 p.m.

Park is 14-11-0 all-time in season openers, bringing a four-game winning streak in lid-lifters into Wednesday's game. An 80th-minute goal by Pedro de Souza gave the Pirates a 3-2 win over Northwestern College (Iowa). Daniel Jackson (SR/Nottingham, England) assisted on the game-winning goal, while Nicolas Andre (SR/Campo Limpo Paulista, Brazil) also had an assist in the match. Thalu Masindi (JR/London, England) recorded one save to earn the win in goal for the Pirates. Park owns a 10-6-0 all-time record in season-opening games under head coach Efrem Shimlis.

The Pirates will be facing the Chargers for the third all-time meeting between the programs, both of the previous contests being claimed by Briar Cliff. The two teams are squaring off for the first time since Oct. 24, 1999 when Briar Cliff posted a 2-1 win. The first meeting between the teams was in the previous campaign on Sept. 20, 1998, a game that Briar Cliff claimed with a 1-0 scoreline.

Briar Cliff brings a 1-0-0 record into Wednesday's game after kicking off its 2017 season with a 12-0 win over Presentation College (S.D.) on Saturday. Prichard Sibanda scored half of his team's goals with six and fired 17 shots in the contest. The Chargers recorded 41 shots in total and had five different goal scorers. Briar Cliff was 9-9-0 last season that included a 3-6-0 mark to finish tied for 7th in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

The Pirates are playing their first game against a GPAC foe since August 27, 2011, a 2-0 win over Midland University (Neb.).
Park averaged 3.25 goals per game in home contests during the 2016 campaign and recorded two of its three clean sheets at Julian Field.

Following its road game on Saturday at Graceland, Park will be back at Julian Field on Wednesday, September 6 for a non-conference game against Friends University (Kan.) at 7:00 p.m. The Pirates will complete non-conference play on Saturday, September 9 at the University of St. Mary (Kan.) at 7:30 p.m.
