KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released its 2016-17 list of Scholar Teams, 1,658 in all, including a school-record 11 from Park University, three more than the previous record of eight. For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team Award, it must have a minimum grade point average among its eligible varsity athletes of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution.
Park's highest team GPA came from the Pirates' women's golf team, which finished at 3.73, followed by women's volleyball, at 3.52, as the only two teams at Park better than 3.5. Women's soccer (3.45) and softball (3.40) were next, while the men's and women's cross country teams each registered at better than 3.2.
In all, the University boasted 107 academic all-conference honorees and 36 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete individual awards, as well as two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in the 2016-17 academic year.
