KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mallory Land is Park University's first softball All-American in half a decade, named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American by the association's softball coaches Friday in Kansas City.

A Park Hill South High School graduate and 2013 all-state performer for the Panthers, Land hit .485 this season for the Pirates, her second year with Park after transferring prior to the 2016 season from the University of North Texas.

In 2017, Land hit four home runs and drove in 45 runs, slugging .750, starting at third base 39 times while playing in all 41 games for the Pirates.

Park's last softball All-American was also a third baseman, Jamie Tanno, who was a 2012 All-American for the Pirates after slugging better than .900 with a school-record 15 home runs. For Land, her 45 RBIs stand fifth all-time for the Pirates, while her 19 doubles are second to Tanno's 23 in 2012 and her 64 base hits are tied for second in Park's all-time softball record book.

"Mallory is one of the most humble people I've ever been around, and I'm very proud of what she's accomplished. She definitely deserves this award, but she'll tell you she's a team-first kind of player," said Park coach Lindsey Derry. "What's she's done for us the last two years has contributed immensely to our success both on and off the field. Her talent and leadership is something anyone can get better from being around. I'm really happy for her to be named an All-American."

Land is one of only three All-Americans from the American Midwest Conference, as Columbia's Theresa DeCosty and Carly Spalding were also named to NAIA All-America teams.
