Three Pirates named to AVCA All-American teams.
PARKVILLE, Mo. – Third-ranked Park University men's volleyball team had three members named to AVCA All-American teams on Monday, April 17. Daniel Arteaga and Oscar Tuero were named to the AVCA All-American team. Their teammate, Murilo Pereira, was named to the Honorable Mention AVCA All-American team.
Arteaga, a senior outside hitter from Caracas, Venezuela, earns his third All-American award in his four seasons at Park University. He has appeared in 94 sets and 26 matches for the Pirates. Arteaga is ranked sixth in NAIA Men's Volleyball with 367 kills and ranked eighth with 3.90 kills per set. He has a hitting percentage of .334. Arteaga had 155 digs, 80 blocks, 33 service aces and five assists this season for Park.
Tuero, a sophomore right side hitter from Santi Spiritus, Cuba, has earned his first All-American award. He has appeared in 98 sets and 27 matches in the Pirates' uniform. Tuero has had a total of 245 kills and 454 total attempts with a hitting percentage of .374. He is averaging 2.50 kills per set for the Pirates' offense. Tuero has added 88 blocks, 24 digs and two assists for Park this season.
Pereira, a senior middle blocker from Curitiba, Brazil, earns Honorable Mention All-American this season for the Pirates. He has appeared in 98 sets and 27 matches for Park. Pereira is ranked third in NAIA Men's Volleyball with 120 blocks and 1.22 blocks per set. He has also added 188 kills, 53 digs, 11 service aces and nine assists this season for Park.
The Pirates (23-4) open the 2017 NAIA Invitational Tournament on Thursday, April 20, against first-ranked Grand View University in St. Louis, Missouri, in pool play. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
