HENDERSON, Tenn. - Daniel Jackson scored two early goals to give Park University an initial edge and Isaias De La Torre buried the game winner in overtime, in the 99th minute of the Pirates' 3-2 win over Freed-Hardeman University on the final day of the regular season in the 2016 season.
Park (8-5-2, 7-4 AMC) was up early on the Lions, who are now 4-10, 4-7 in conference games, as Jackson scored in the 10th, assisted by Ivan Aguero, and in the 13th, Tim Kloster found Jackson for Park's second goal, giving the Pirates what looked like a comfortable edge before the clock hit 32:00 on the first half.
Freed-Hardeman chipped away at the lead in the 24th, when Andres Arias Garcia located Alex Meany for a score to trim Park's lead to 2-1 at intermission, and in the 63rd, Andrij Sawczuk scored a goal that would ultimately force extra time, assisted by Nassar Ssempa.
FHU out-shot park 16-15 in the game, including 8-6 in shots on goal, but De La Torre's final shot was the most important, ending the game after 98:06 to hand Thalu Masindi a goal-keeping win after six saves in eight faced. Kyle Brown took the loss for the Lions, making three saves and allowing three goals in six shots on goal for the Pirates.
