ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Park University men's soccer team headed across the state to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Missouri Baptist University in an American Midwest Conference game. The Pirates (5-4-2, 4-3 AMC) beat the Spartans (6-4-3, 3-3 AMC) 6-2.

"The boys were focused and ready to go today," said Park coach Efrem Shimlis. "We scored some good much needed team goals."

In the 31st minute of the game, the Pirates' Mario Erpel scored the first goal in the game. Erpel's goal was assisted by Daniel Jackson. In the first half, the Pirates outshot the Spartans six to four.

In the 47th minute, the Pirates' Mirko Sandivari found Pedro De Souza to put the Pirates up 2-0 over the Spartans. Ten minutes later Sandivari scored the next goal for the Pirates. In the 59th minute, the Pirates' Tim Kloster found Guillermo Carrasco to put the Pirates up 4-0. Two minutes later, the Spartans' Benjamin Boyd passed the ball to Aris Nukic to put the ball in the back of the net. In the 64th minute, the Spartans' Thales Teixeira found Joshua Phillips to score their second goal of the game. The Pirates led the Spartans 4-2 after the Spartans back to back goals. In the 79th minute, Kloster drilled the ball in the back of the net. The Pirates' Jackson Willard scored his first collegiate goal of the season and finished out the scoring in the game.

The Pirates' Thalu Masindi played the full 90 minutes in the net. Masindi made one save on the day for the Pirates. The Spartans' Braedan Passalis was in the net making three saves on the day.

"To be honest, the score may be a little misleading because Missouri Baptist is a good team," said Shimlis. "But, when we are focused and play together, we are able to compete against anyone. Now we have to be ready for another big game this Saturday against Lindenwood University-Belleville. It would be nice to have everyone come out to support the boys."

The Pirates will be back in action at Julian Field on Saturday, October 15, as they host No. 21 Lindenwood University-Belleville in an AMC game. There will be live stats and live video available at Pirate Sports Network at The start time is set to start at 2 p.m., following the women's game.
