PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Park University men's soccer team hosted Columbia College in the American Midwest Conference Game of the Week. The Pirates (3-4-2, 2-3 AMC) fell to the Cougars (6-4, 5-0 AMC) 1-0.
"After an early goal, I thought my team worked very hard to get the goal back," said Park coach Efrem Shimlis. "Columbia is a very good team and didn't give us too many looks. I was happy with the effort from all the players."
The lone goal of the game came in the 4th minute when the Cougars' Dan Reilly took the throw in to find Mitchell Conning. The Pirates outshot the Cougars in the first half five to three.
The Pirates' Thalu Masindi played in the net making two saves on the night. The Cougars' Iain McTurk picked up the win in the net making two saves in the game.
"We are inching toward the team we are capable of being," said Shimlis. "I feel that it is just a matter time. We have to believe in each other and play as a team and everything else will take care of itself. We have some time before the next game to get players healthy and have everyone available."
The Pirates will be back in action on Saturday, October 8, as they host Saint Louis College of Pharmacy in an AMC game. The start time is set for 2 p.m., following the women's game. There will be live stats and live video available on Pirate Sports Network at www.parkathletics.com.
